Chelsea & Paul’s Vintage Village Hall Wedding

Today on the blog I’m really excited to share Chelsea and Paul’s gorgeous vintage styled, village hall wedding.  Chelsea came to us searching for a dress that was a little different from a traditional wedding gown, a little more relaxed and boho while still being beautifully bridal. She also wanted to add a pop of colour and make the dress her own which is something we always enjoy, working with brides who are creative and know what they want from their wedding dress.

Chelsea chose ‘Rosalia’ a beautiful, statement lace gown from Katya Katya London and added her own twist on the original, removing the cap sleeves and opting for a light sage green slip to compliment her colour scheme.

Here Chelsea has provided us a wonderful account of her big day so take it away Chelsea!

Our venue was Wootton Village Hall (near Canterbury). The tight-knit community here built this hall themselves as a place to get together after their village pub closed down. They bought it flat-packed from Lithuania and then built it together with the help of some Lithuanian guys who came over to help. They are very protective of the hall and only have four to six weddings per year. We had to meet the villagers at their monthly coffee morning before we could book it. But it’s a lovely place and it really shows that it is well looked after.

Paul really didn’t want to wear a suit for the wedding so we got his outfit from a little shop on Brick Lane called Twins Diverse: https://www.facebook.com/twindiverse/. A very lovely Italian man helped Paul choose his outfit and he was really happy that he could get something a bit different and he was very excited to wear it! We got the bow ties for Paul, the best men and page boy from 40 Colori, just off Brick Lane https://www.40colori.com/. They custom-made the page boy’s bow tie to match Paul’s in the family’s factory near Milan.

We had arranged dresses about 6 months early because one of the bridesmaids lives in Canada. However, two of them became pregnant and would be five months pregnant at the time of the wedding! So we did a last minute change and opted for similar (maternity) dress for all 3 from Seraphine.

We decided not to use a florist. It makes me sad when the flowers die! So we chose silk flowers from Whittingtons in Lordswood http://www.whittingtons.biz/. My mum was keen to make the table decorations, archway and hair pieces, so using silk flowers allowed her to do this in advance.

We asked a family friend to do the catering for us, Glenda, the landlady at Gillingham pub, The Frog and Toad https://www.facebook.com/thefrogandtoadgillingham/. She did a fantastic job and everyone loved the food!

My friend and bridesmaid, Jamila, made the cake for us. She’s not a professional baker but she should be! She makes the most delicious cakes and decorates them beautifully.

The photographers are actually 3rd year Photography students at the University in Broadstairs. I think they did an absolutely fantastic job: Turner Photo – www.turnerphoto.uk and www.sophieminterphotography.co.uk.
How you found your dress finding experience at The Wild Heart?

I thought that finding my dress would be such a difficult chore. I don’t like a fuss being made, or being the centre of attention, or making decisions! As soon as I stepped through the door I felt immediately comfortable. You guys are just lovely, so relaxed and natural, which made me feel at ease. I was able to take my time, pick out some things that I liked and you helped when you could see I needed some guidance. You provide a very personal service and it is clear you are passionate and love what you do.

What made your dress ‘The One’?

It felt right as soon as I put it on. It was so comfortable! The lace wasn’t itchy and it wasn’t tight and restricting like many others I’d tried. The beautiful lace gave it a vintage look and it was stunning without being overstated. I was able to combine two dresses from the same designer (the top of one and skirt of the other) to create the perfect dress that I absolutely love!

Thank you for an amazing account of your big day Chelsea, I love the idea of the Village Hall and bringing everyone together to celebrate with you.  Having family and friends around you to contribute to your big day with the flowers, cake and venue decoration makes it all the more special and personal to you both as a couple.  And the result was simply beautiful.

Congratulations again Chelsea and Paul you created a day full of love, laughter and happiness and we wish you the most amazing married life together. xXx
